Readers sound off on Election Day 2024

The choice you make today you will own forever

Manhattan: I find it nearly impossible to believe that millions of seemingly normal Americans are thinking of casting their votes for Donald Trump. I have to think that the vast majority of these people have tuned out in order to preserve their sanity. I get it. However, given that this is arguably the most consequential election of our lifetime, the default mode is no longer a luxury we can afford.

I thereby urge each and every Trump-leaning voter to do their research. Google Trump’s rallies, his Truth Social posts, his insults and obscenities. His outrageous lies. Hard to stomach, isn’t it? Is this really the guy you want your children to view as a role model? The guy you want representing us on the increasingly unstable world stage? Your children’s history books will take an unflinching look back at the Trump era. They will not be kind. Millions of students will come to their parents and grandparents, asking who they voted for and why. Prepare your answers ahead of time, as you will forever be viewed in light of your responses.

Steve Bannon and fellow extremist Stephen Miller are poised to take on hugely significant roles in a Trump administration. Google them, along with Trump darling, 9/11 denier and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who he inconceivably took as his date to the 9/11 memorial ceremony in September. We should all be concerned that a vote for faux-conservative Christian Trump could end up being a vote for President JD Vance. If that alone doesn’t scare the pants off of those in the still-sane American electorate, I’m afraid that nothing will. Anne Stockton

Non-violence for migrants

Plainview, L.I.: In regards to calling Trump Hitler, Trump plans to send the migrants on a plane back to where they came from. What do you think the real Hitler would have done in this situation?  Frank Mauceri

Against the rules

White Plains, N.Y.: It’s been four years and Trump still insists he won the 2020 election. If that’s true, why is he running for a third term? Has he ever read our Constitution? Randi Bernstein Feigenbaum

Put on display

Bronx: As a way of building bridges and in the spirit of comity, I extend to all Trump detractors, in good faith, an olive branch. With this in mind, you should be aware of what I believe may be a nefarious scheme. Did it ever occur to you that the Daily News is printing your reckless and irrational comments as a pretense to prove just how ignorant and immature you are so that the rest of us could have a good laugh? Bob Pascarella

Vote for him

Milton, W.Va.: What Kamala Harris means to me: The worst vice president in U.S history; higher taxes for everybody; the highest debt spending; no job creation plans of any kind; an open-border policy; higher crime; and a bad economy. So, vote for Donald J. Trump for president of the United States of America to make America great once again. Michael E. Peterson

Money talks

Brooklyn: The cover of a recent edition of The Economist, a reputable British news magazine, had a headline reading “The Envy of the World.” It referred to the U.S. economy under Biden-Harris, which has emerged from the COVID pandemic stronger than any other industrialized nation, with lower inflation, unemployment and gas prices, and boasting strong job and GNP growth. All three major U.S. stock indexes are at record highs, benefiting the retirement portfolios of millions of seniors like me, along with 401(k) and pension plans. The recession that was eagerly predicted by Fox Business News and Republicans never materialized. Yet, the Harris-Waltz campaign has been largely mute on this impressive record, even as Trump campaigns claiming the economy is on the verge of collapse and that the Democratic Party is a Marxist organization intent on bankrupting the country. The economic record of the Biden-Harris administration needs to be celebrated, not ignored. Dennis Middlebrooks

Military mindset

Manalapan, N.J.: I’m a registered Independent, and pedigree Democrat via both sides of my family. My first time voting was for JFK by legitimate mail-in ballot while serving in the military overseas. I love my family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is primarily for these reasons that I can’t vote Democrat. The Dem-olition Party has blown up “we the people” with the most self-serving and corrupt presidents in our history — the Clintons, Obamas and Bidens, with all three still having their hands in the till. Yet, most disturbing is this current duo: Harris/Walz. They don’t have the respect of our veterans and servicemen, and will render our military recruitment to a point where we will become subject to the military powers of China, Russia and Iran. Vince Gallagher

Didn’t miss you

Forest Hills: Today, America holds its most consequential election of our times. The stark contrast between the candidates could not be clearer. Compare the character, personality and humanity of the two candidates. Harris speaks of being president for all Americans, of uniting instead of dividing us, of bringing sanity, dignity and respect for all people back to our country, which has “gone off the rails.” Compare that to Trump at his Madison Square Garden rally preaching hatred for anyone not a Trump loyalist, calling them “the enemy within.” The rally relied on profanity, rage, invectives and hateful speeches aimed at all Americans to make his point. Trump ended the rally by asking, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” I would say, for myriad reasons, yes! Most importantly, we didn’t have to suffer four more years of you as our president! Mel Moskowitz

Fear of death

Medford, L.I.: When I initially saw the screaming headline that Trump, who is laughingly being labeled a fascist by Harris, was threatening to have Liz Cheney executed by firing squad, I reflexively chuckled and said to myself, “Let’s wait 24 hours to see how this fake story shakes out.” Sure enough, when the whole unedited videotape is played, as in previous cases distorting Trump, it was all B.S. I’m wondering how far into this ruse Cheney and the Dems want to drag this story out for credibility sake. When Trump wins, with the hysterical left fearing they’ll be persecuted and even executed, will there be a mass exodus from the country? Luana Dunn

God-fearless

Manhattan: The hauf-Scot, Donald J. Trump, heeds Macbeth’s opinion that the carousel of life is “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” There is no God, no heaven or hell; there will be no judgment. So, he might as well reach for the brass ring because there is nothing that will come after. He is liberated — one suspects that to be his attraction. He is not alone: history is replete with tyrants who have committed unspeakable acts without retribution. Many of us would like to be free but have a lingering hope that, when the carousel stops, we can hop on another horse. Today, some may enter Trump’s world (perhaps dragging the rest of us with them); they might listen to Dante: “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.” Michele P. Brown

Unifier

Cincinnati: We need a president who can unite the country, and Harris is our best hope. If America is united for peace, we can overcome any challenge. But we must get over the harsh rhetoric and partisan politics. I believe Harris will try to bring Republicans and Democrats together after this difficult election year. We have seen some good examples of cooperation, like the expansion of the WIC program that feeds impoverished mothers, infants and children, and the national security supplemental that sent military aid for Ukraine to resist Russia’s invasion. We need to see more bipartisanship going forward. Harris is our best chance to make it happen. William Lambers

Decrepit dictator

Brooklyn: You people who vote for Trump and wear those stupid red hats are all crazy. Trump said that President Biden is old. Has he looked in the mirror? The skin under his chin hangs down, he has wrinkles around his eyes and he dyes his hair so it will remain blond. He’s an evil man who doesn’t want good for America. Maria Perez
