Readers sound off on erasing Black history, Passover meals and a parole hearing

This presidency is white backlash on steroids

Bronx: How long, oh Lord, must we endure the evildoings of this President Trump? From sending men to the hellhole prison in El Salvador without their day in court to seeking to erase Black history from the history of America.

I just read that Harriet Tubman’s image and words have been removed from the webpage of the National Park Service. Also removed are any references to enslaved people or the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Even Jackie Robinson’s photo was removed from the Pentagon but was quickly restored.

Apparently, Trump is out to purge every Black person who works for the government in every department. They are labeled “DEI.” It’s obvious he does not believe in diversity, equity and inclusion. Just look at members of the White House staff or his cabinet. The only spot of color there is the man who has the “Black job” (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development).

It is amazing that the man who put Pete Hegseth in charge of the military is firing Black people because they are “incompetent.” Apparently, Blacks and other minorities are the only ones who have to be competent. White men can be as incompetent as they want to be.

I am truly wondering when Congress will wake up and do something to stop this outrageous assault on America and her Constitution. Please, I beg you, let America be America again. Pauline Graham Binder

Convict’s con

Amityville, L.I.: Will somebody please explain to me how a convicted felon can not vote, but Trump is a convicted felon and is president of the United States? Will somebody explain how a convicted Black person is a zero and Trump, with 34 convictions, is a hero? Dozier Shellman

Out the window

Whitestone: Donnie boy, what happened to no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security and lower grocery prices? Maybe those promises slipped your mind. Or maybe we just add them to your list of lies. Promises made, promises not kept. Robin Mazzia

Malpractice

Scarborough, N.Y.: Regarding the worldwide tariff war he started, Trump said the patient lived and is healing. The problem is that the patient needed Tommy John surgery, but Dr. Trump sawed off both of the patient’s arms. Thomas F. Comiskey

World domination

Staten Island: With all the executive actions Trump has taken in his current term, it’s obvious that he wants to weaken America in every way he can. He wants to bring America to her knees. In this way, he can assume the role of dictator without any resistance. Moreover, he has been conferring with Vladimir Putin. Their grand plan is to have America abandon NATO. Thus, all of Europe will fall to Russia. Then Trump and Putin can enslave the world, for there will no longer be a Free World. The only way to stop Trump is for the military to declare martial law and physically remove him and all his allies from office. Remember, the military takes an oath to defend the Constitution, not a president. Trump’s allies would include the people he appointed to head the military, for they are part of his evil plot. Anthony C. Desiderio

Term limit

Bronx: When the writer/poet Maya Angelou said, “When someone tells you who they are, believe them,” well, that person in the White House is saying he is thinking about running for an additional four years when his term is over — knowing that it is unconstitutional and that there are ways to make it happen. I believe he is going to try and make it happen. I don’t know about you, but I am not sure our country can survive his current term. We can’t let him be in for another. Sharon Sargent

Collective responsibility

Rocky Point, L.I.: Why should we in America take care of the rest of the world when 10% of it lives in poverty? That amounts to 820 million people. It’s up to other countries to help. Al Glass

Cut out the cruelty

Bethesda, Md.: This evening marks the first night of Passover, the holiday of freedom, celebrating the liberation of Jewish slaves from Egyptian bondage. It’s an occasion to get together with our families, enjoy symbolic Passover foods and reflect on the meaning of freedom. Selected food items are placed on the table to symbolize our freedom from slavery. Leavened bread is banned. We should also ban all animal flesh and dairy products, as they involve the slavery and killing of animals. Fortunately, our favorite supermarket carries a rich variety of vegetables, grains, pulses and nuts, as well as a generous selection of ready-to-eat plant-based meat and dairy products. Let’s make this year’s Passover observance about freedom for all, not just our Jewish ancestors. Alex Hershaft

Compassionate care

Fresh Meadows: I am outraged that Beth Israel Hospital was forced to close. Several years ago, my husband was away from home and he became sick. He had a staph infection growing on his index finger, and a quick-thinking friend brought us to one of Beth Israel’s urgent care facilities. They sprang into action and in a few short hours had his medical history from our New Hyde Park general practitioner and had prescribed an antifungal medication. They saved his life as flawlessly as any other medical group I have ever seen in 64 years! Lesley Lewis Paulos

Not manly

Bronx: An open letter to the so-called men who like to beat on children (“Charged after boy’s death,” March 13): You’re nothing but punks with a capital “P.” You’re that person who will hit a woman or a child but is afraid to hit a man. That’s the modus operandi of a punk who walks around like a man. Probably, those genes were inherited from those you called father or even grandfather. You’re destined to be a punk until the day you die. You will never be a man! Robert Adams

Harrowing headlines

Manhattan: Which of the following did not appear in Wednesday’s Daily News: A) Teen slays grandmother, wounds mother; B) stabbing at Fort Lee High School; C) slashing at Chinatown shelter; D) gang members busted for spreading violent mayhem in Harlem; E) man bashes two MTA workers with kick scooter; F) Upper East Side woman kills neighbor’s “filthy, annoying” cats roaming corridor with kitchen knife; G) district attorney accuses Bronx man of stabbing estranged wife, wounding her mother; H) up-and-coming costume designer slashed by unhinged homeless man; I) former Met/Yankee Octavio Dotel dies in Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse; J) 77-year-old woman dies in Brooklyn brownstone blaze. Answer: F. The good news: No animals were harmed that day. Daniel Stevens

Lawless leader

Astoria: Police Officer Edward Byrne’s shooter is about to meet with the New York State Parole Board. David McClary has served 36 years for the infamous assassination of the 22-year-old officer. This board, which consists of 12 members appointed by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, granted freedom to Scott Cobb, the getaway driver from that horrible night on Feb. 26, 1988. What is the purpose of releasing these scums of society? It was Cuomo’s father who banished the death penalty for cop killers when he served as governor. If this doesn’t show that his son, who also allowed the legalization of recreational marijuana, is part of today’s woke wackos, then I’m going to stay asleep. Any New Yorker who votes for Cuomo for mayor needs to get some psychological counseling. The time is now for common sense to return after the aroma of weed disappears. Aris Sakellaridis

Sordid city

Staten Island: Kim Kardashian’s supersized latex legend in Times Square looks like nothing but a fat blob. Det. Melissa Mercado, who set hearts racing as she danced in a black bra, matching G-string and glittery black boots — did the NYPD give her permission to do this? Why isn’t she demoted? Last but not least, a Levi’s commercial on TV has a blond Beyoncé bent over with her big backside playing pool. So vulgar. This city is in the toilet. Fran Bocignone
