Mass killing is still a war crime after Oct. 7
Bedford, N.Y.: To Voicer Daniel H. Trigoboff: The only “Nazi-level barbarians” committing atrocities are the Israel Defense Forces under orders of their prime minister. It’s the IDF that has slaughtered more than 70,000 unarmed civilians, including almost 18,000 babies and children, and kidnapped and imprisoned more than 20,000 men, women and children.
It’s the IDF that has attacked and killed doctors, nurses, emergency staff and patients in hospitals in Gaza. It’s the IDF that has targeted and killed thousands of people seeking refuge in churches, mosques, refugee centers and schools. It’s the IDF that has targeted and killed humanitarian aid workers traveling in clearly marked vans. It’s the IDF that is targeting and killing starving Palestinians lining up for food distribution in areas designated by the IDF itself (how much crueler could that be?!). The IDF has killed its own hostages! It has targeted and killed journalists in clearly marked press tents.
Yes, Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and killed 1,139 people, including security guards, and that’s on them, but that attack does not compare to the genocide being committed in Gaza. For these and other crimes, it’s Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister who have been indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court, which has also issued warrants for their arrest.
Please do your research and stop spewing the B.S being spewed by the prime minister and his sycophants in order to deceive gullible people like yourself. Celine Secada
Protect NATO
Manhattan: It is obvious that Ukraine is caught between a rock and a hard place because it is not part of NATO. The talk that Russia will invade NATO countries and start a world war with nuclear weapons is a little far-fetched. To me, it is most important that we help arm NATO to the fullest and deter any thought of that type of aggression on the part of Russia. There is no question that President Trump has to make abundantly clear and emphasize our total support for our NATO allies. This assurance should be part of any peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. Reunited
Briarwood: Absolutely the best Daily News front page ever, “He’s all I have” (Aug. 15). A homeless man reunited with his dog — his only family, his only friend. Tears of joy for him and Daddy’s Roc! Patricia Nuzzi
Better murder?
Kew Gardens Hills: Another day, another stupid idea by a City Council member, this time Rafael Salamanca of the Bronx. He wants to pass legislation that will guarantee 10 days’ bereavement pay for any private-sector employee who loses a relative to gun violence. I suppose that means that if someone is stabbed to death, shoved out a window or thrown in front of a subway train, his or her death means less than the death of someone who is shot to death. Sometimes I get the feeling that the City Council gets a cash bonus for each moronic idea they come up with. Barry Koppel
Corruption queen
Forest Hills: It boggles my mind that anyone would be surprised that Juanita Holmes is trying to install a family member in Holmes’s fiefdom, the Department of Probation. After all, Holmes was awarded that position after then-Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell objected to Holmes inviting Cardi B (of “WAP” fame) to perform without running it by the commissioner. So, Major Adams put Holmes as the Probation Department leader. Really? Between this conflict, an $87,000 car demand and now a nepotism reach, time to kick this unqualified woman to the curb. J.M. Culley

Terre Haute, Ind.: Kansas City’s government-operated grocery story just closed. Zohran Mamdani’s proposed stores will face the same fate. Oops, that means food shortages. If you New Yorkers elect him mayor and food eventually disappears for the average New Yorker, where will you get your groceries? Since the city has an abundance of rats, certainly there is no meat supply issue. Perhaps the wealthy communist Zohran might then ceremoniously share a rat, lettuce and tomato sandwich on toast with you at some point in the future once he is convinced to leave his mayoral mansion to rub elbows with the common folk. Oh, by the way, various New York homeless who live in the city’s subway system opine that rat meat is quite tasty. Earl Beal
It’s nothing new
Commack, L.I.: The number of Voicers, in addition to Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, who have called the Democratic nominee Mamdani a Communist apparently don’t seem to know the difference between communism and socialism. We already have several socialist programs in use in the United States. We also have several socialist members of Congress — among them, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Summer Lee and Greg Casar. And, according to Wikipedia, there are currently nine socialist mayors in office in the U.S., with another 92 between 1898 and 2024. New York City Mayor David Dinkins was one of them. Thus, if elected, Mamdani won’t be the city’s first. Yvonne Fitzner
It’s on us
Valley Stream, L.I.: Thank you for publishing an environmental crime story from Australia, “Great Barrier Reef sees largest annual loss of coral in 39 years” (Aug. 13). We know the perpetrator: climate change. We know the mob behind it: the fossil fuel industry. We know what to do about it: break the fossil fuel cartel by building clean energy. With the Trump administration doing exactly the opposite, and no real-life Superman coming to our rescue, it’s up to the states to act, and everyday Americans to vote for saving the planet. Are you listening, Gov. Hochul? Alden Pearl
Agency under attack
Waldwick, N.J.: We are deeply concerned by the recent dismissals without explanation of FBI agents and senior managers, as are the nearly 9,000 former FBI agents we represent. The FBI must remain an independent law enforcement agency protected from political interference. This principle comes from the oath every agent takes to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. Agents are trained to treat all defendants with due process throughout the investigative process and during any subsequent prosecution. Likewise, federal law protects FBI employees from being dismissed without due process, and that standard must be followed every time and with every employee. When employees, no matter their rank, are removed without following established due process procedures, it raises questions about the lawfulness of the action and the independence of the FBI. Agents owe a duty to the Constitution, not to any political party. Joseph Valiquette, information committee chair, Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI
Abandoned values
Scarsdale, N.Y.: Where are we as a country? The question that the good people of the United States have to ask themselves is if character, integrity, truthfulness and compassion matter in a president? Is it important in America to have an honest president? Our current one seems to have missed this boat. Trump appears to be a man who solidifies his history of questionable character and honesty every day. His U.S. flounders with economic uncertainty as he appears to enrich himself and his surrounding cult followers (by selling MAGA sneakers, Bibles, hats, etc.). The president is what he is: a slick media man whose vision only values money and power. Trump fiddles as America drifts. Harvey Wielstein
Harmful to health
Dayton, Ohio: In the Aug. 13 editorial “Saving lives no more,” the Daily News writes, “RFK must be fired immediately or impeached and removed by Congress. Many lives hang in the balance.” Trump has made many dangerous appointments, but RFK Jr. might cause the death of more of us than any of Trump’s other appointees. The likelihood of Congress removing Kennedy is zero. Trump, however, enjoys firing people. If he fires Kennedy, he can legitimately claim to have saved innumerable lives. Vic Presutti
