Readers sound off on Trump’s DOJ, rights of the accused and elite high schools

Trump’s just doing what the courts did to him

Yonkers: Re “Smearing Tish James” (editorial, Oct. 10): This is pure liberal, woke ideology and total trash. James predicated her entire election campaign on going after President Trump. Ridiculous and frivolous allegations put forth by James and assisted by biased judges with the same agenda as James — to not only embarrass Trump, but to prevent him from winning the 2024 election, or to keep him from running.

Well, we saw how all that nonsense played out. James and her cronies assert that her indictment is “payback” for her prosecution of Trump and nothing more. Personally, I hope so, and I hope Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and the clown-robed jurists are in Trump’s thoughts as well. If James should be found not guilty, it still allows her to experience what she and those disgraceful, robed morons put Trump through. This attorney general indicted and on trial is gratifying, to say the least.

I pray that a pro-Trump jury sits, as opposed to the anti-Trump jury that Bragg, his prosecutors and the robed puppets obviously allowed to sit in the jury box with a predetermined and biased guilty verdict during the sham trial of Trump. It was a pathetic, disgusting display of total corruption and control by our criminal justice system made obvious and seen on a national scale. America had a front-row seat to experience how the system can be rigged by those in power.

All they did was make Trump the 47th president of the United States, thank God, and by an unprecedented landslide. Thank you, America. Ralph A. Manente

Oversaturated ‘SNL’

Brooklyn: I can’t watch “Saturday Night Live,” a Saturday night favorite, anymore. Everything is Trump. The writing and sketches have no imagination. What happened, Lorne Michaels? Joe Many

Fascist force

San Mateo, Calif.: The ICE Gestapo — “Show me your papers.” Am I overstating our reality? Remember the old black-and-white movies with uniformed officers going through a moving train demanding, “Show me your papers, madam”? We have agents now staking out Home Depot parking lots. We have them doing unprovoked “traffic stops” demanding papers, then breaking car windows if they are not rolled down. They are at immigration offices snatching folks on routine check-in visits. They are at churches and even hospital emergency rooms where the poor and immigrants often need to go for care. “Show me your papers.” Perhaps they need to start wearing the appropriate armbands. Remember the star San Francisco ballplayer wearing the T-shirt “I only look illegal”? Maybe we all need to start wearing them. Haven’t we all seen this movie before? Mike Caggiano

As it should be

East Meadow, L.I.: The Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to a Latin American woman trying to rid her country of fascism instead of awarding it to a fascist trying to rid our country of Latin Americans. Good move. Richard Skibins

Pro-war

Pacific Coast, Calif.: Do you think Trump would have had a better chance of winning his coveted Nobel Peace Prize if he didn’t rename the Department of Defense the Department of War? Jim Hall

Made it happen

Manhattan: While I have never been a big Trump fan, I have to give credit where credit is due. Apparently, Trump’s bullying tactics paid off in the Mideast standoff and resulted in a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. This is something no one else was able to accomplish. So thank you, President Trump, for doing the impossible. As for the exchange of 48 Israeli hostages (only 20 of whom are alive) for 1,950 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, it doesn’t take a mathematician to wonder what is wrong with this equation. Am I the only one who is outraged by this inequity? Chana Schwartz

State it plainly

Manhattan: When will any media outlets start calling Trump out for what he is: a perverted pedophile, rapist and convicted felon. And a pathological liar (they are eating the dogs, Portland is a war zone,Tylenol and circumcision cause autism — all dog whistles to the hard right). No one is holding him to account for his ridiculous blathering. The U.S.A. deserves better than this fool, and the media is MIA when we need it most. Joseph Duffy

Don’t fold

Manhattan: Long Island Congress members Reps. Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino, Laura Gillen and Tom Suozzi are ready to sell out their constituents and break with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries on his firm stand on not letting the Republicans destroy our health care. Suozzi is even co-introducing a bipartisan bill to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for one year instead of permanently, as if that will do us any long-term good. Where is the restoration of Medicaid cuts and preventing Trump from withholding congressionally appropriated funds at will? The first rule of dealing with bullies, whether the playground or presidential type, is to not obey in advance. Hold your ground until they give way. Danette Lipten

Lives on the line

Kitchener, Ontario: If the Trump Republicans’ budget becomes law, Medicaid cuts will kill some 51,000 Americans while millions more will struggle to pay drastically higher Obamacare premiums. If those aren’t good enough reasons to block the budget, I don’t know what would be. All Americans who care about the quality of the health care their families receive should get behind Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer and the House and Senate Democrats and force the Republicans to pass a budget that protects families instead of coddling billionaires. Al Daigen

Propaganda at the gate

Tarrytown, N.Y.: A video of Kristi Noem blaming Democrats for the government shutdown is now playing at airports across the U.S. The Hatch Act prohibits making public statements that advocate for or against a partisan candidate, party or political group. Noem is way out of line utilizing taxpayer resources to trash Democrats. The insane part is how much this administration has done that is blatantly unconstitutional and with no accountability. Once the Dems have power, we will run the “Trump Crimes & Lies” show at your local airport. The new show will be on a 12-hour loop, and we promise new material daily because he lies every time he opens his trap. Enjoy your layover. Stephen Talenti

He’s a rat

Union, N.J.: Aay! Joisey! Whaddaya doin’? Jack Ciattarelli ratted out Mikie Sherrill for not ratting out her Naval Academy pals. If he’s governor, you can bet he’s gonna rat all of us out to Trump’s thugs. You, me and your friends and neighbors. You know how Joisey feels about rats! So if you’re planning to vote Republican, you don’t know Jack Chit(arelli) and you ain’t real Joisey! Lou Alt

Legal loopholes

Astoria: Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, wants to swap his shackles and prison garb for civilian clothes the way Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger did for fear of jeopardizing his chances of a fair trial. Then there’s alleged United Healthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione’s complaint of the discovery of the weapon in his backpack being found without a search warrant. Also, he was never read his rights before being questioned. It’s time to change the rules to this game of “How do I beat my case?” The advantages these lawyers use to try to get their clients’ freedom despite the crimes they obviously committed has to cease. After all, the victims’ lives were taken without the advantage of a warning. Why does the system cater to the killers’ complaints when the evidence is clearly there to convict? Aris Sakellaridis

Also top-notch

Brooklyn: The Oct. 12 story “Cuomo pushes more specialized HS slots in Qns.” states that Queens “has only one specialized high school, Queens High School of the Sciences, which accepts just 130 students a year.” While technically true since QHSS is the only borough school to use the SHSAT test as its sole admissions requirement, there is no question that Flushing’s much larger, highly selective Townsend Harris High School counts among the city’s elite screened schools. David C. Bloomfield
