This killing resulted from dehumanizing policy
Roosevelt, L.I.: We call for justice in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. The ICE officer responsible for this deadly act must be held fully accountable under the law.
This tragedy occurred a short distance from where George Floyd was unjustly killed — another painful reminder that injustice, excessive force and unequal accountability continue to plague our nation. We must protest President Trump’s mass deportation plan. It is senseless family separation on steroids, and it must not be tolerated, no matter how popular Trump may be. Mass deportation of millions of immigrants is extremely harmful to the moral fabric, economic stability and global standing of the U.S. All immigrants are not criminals and must not be collectively targeted, demonized or discriminated against simply because Trump has returned to the White House. Hard-working immigrants contribute to our communities, economy and future. They must be celebrated and appreciated, not eliminated to satisfy a campaign promise built on fear and falsehoods. Yes, those who have committed crimes must be held accountable. That standard must apply equally to everyone — including Trump. You reap what you sow, and what is done in darkness will eventually come to light.
The dangerous double standards embedded in mass deportation policies could severely backfire on America. These policies impose devastating costs on American citizens, weakening our economy, increasing the national debt, straining public budgets and tearing families apart. Justice demands accountability. Humanity demands compassion. Democracy demands resistance to policies that devalue life. Arthur L. Mackey Jr.
We can see
Howard Beach: Too bad for Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem that there are video recordings showing exactly what happened when a woman was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. They can’t get away with their bald-faced lies no matter how many times Trump repeats his lying version about what took place. Barbara Berg
Try and keep up
Scranton, Pa.: OK, class, it’s time for today’s lesson in MAGA Justice 101 with Prof. Kristi “Puppy Killer” Noem: If you are arrested and convicted after smashing windows to enter the Capitol, defecating on the floors, assaulting Capitol Police with bear spray, spearing them with flagpoles, beating them senseless with their batons and chanting to hang officials as they attempt to certify the results of a free and fair election, you will be hailed by the president as a hostage and patriot and receive a pardon. But if you are fatally shot in the face by an untrained, masked thug and accused of running him over with your vehicle when video evidence from different angles clearly shows you did not, you are a domestic terrorist. Plain and simple. Any questions? Vin Morabito
Inconsistent outrage
Hicksville, L.I.: I find it odd that the left is hyperventilating over the ICE shooting in Minnesota. Are you not the same people who praised Capitol Police Officer Michael Byrd for basically murdering Ashli Babbitt? The same Byrd who left a loaded firearm in a public restroom. The same Byrd who shot at a moving vehicle while off duty, stating he felt threatened. The only problem was investigators found bullet holes in the rear of the vehicle, not the front. That proved the vehicle was not a threat to him and that he lied to investigators, which automatically gets you fired if in the NYPD. Yet, he was promoted and financially rewarded for killing an unarmed person. Babbitt was a lot less of a threat to Byrd than the young lady trying to run over the ICE agent, yet you vilify the ICE agent and view Byrd as a god. John Gelormino
Harbinger of doom
Flushing: The ICE abomination this week has shown the entire world what the Trump administration actually is: smoke and mirrors, abject cruelty and liars of the lowest order. Like Jan. 6, they bray that what we all clearly see on our TV screens is not what we saw. Any sane person knows what Jan. 6 was, and now we’ve seen what the cold-blooded murder of Renee Nicole Good was: another ICE atrocity committed by literally untrained goons. This is the Trump administration, where the common good is ignored and open racism, unfathomable incompetence and uncaring callousness reign. America is on the brink of collapse, and to think that a percentage of easily led-by-the-nose Americans embrace what is clearly and obviously evil is the most sickening aspect of it all. Robert Smith

Yonkers: Neil Young needs to rewrite the 1970 song “Ohio” with Nixon changed to Trump and record the frightening description of the current reality in America. Mark Bloom
True believers?
Nutley, N.J.: Fellow Americans, how about taking a little quiz? Who believes he initially wanted to stop drug trafficking from Venezuela to the U.S.? Who believes he also wants to take over Mexico, Cuba and Greenland? Who believes he stopped eight wars last year? Who believes that his DOJ just found 5 million new Epstein files? Who believes he doesn’t want to run for a third term? Oh, one more question: Who lives at Mar-a-Lago North (how about all the gold in the Oval Office and the new $400 million ballroom)? Need any more clues to give a correct answer? Elaine Bucino
Liberated
Madison, Wis.: I thank Trump for ordering strong military action to capture Nicolás Maduro, who suppressed the people of his own country, rigged elections, engaged in the drug trade and committed crimes against humanity. He posed as the president of the South American nation, but in reality, Maduro reigned as a brutal dictator. It was necessary to remove him from power for the benefit of humanity. In the early hours of last Saturday, I was thrilled to learn about the large-scale U.S. military operation in Venezuela. I hope the people of Venezuela can now have a real chance of establishing a democratic society. Tawsif Anam
Sparking destruction
Bronx: To quote Thomas Paine, “These are times that try men’s souls.” Trump and the gutless GOP Congress may be leading America into World War III. Invading other nations and illegally seizing oil tankers in international waters will eventually lead to retaliation. Military intervention in Greenland, a NATO ally’s territory, will make it necessary for NATO to defend Greenland against the U.S. or NATO will cease to exist, because its very existence is rooted in coming to the aid of its members. Vladimir Putin will now have grounds to take all of Ukraine and other bordering countries, and China has the grounds to invade Taiwan. What will Trump do? Nothing, if he doesn’t want to risk WWIII. Trump is a coward and bully. He likes to pick on a weak country, not those with nuclear weapons. Gilbert M. Lane
Domestic threat
Denver: As Trump continues to emphasize his humanitarian efforts and accomplishments, I wonder when he will turn his “cocked pistol on his picked evil” toward Big Tobacco, which evades product liability as it causes more than 480,000 tobacco-related deaths annually in the U.S. Does he realize that non-smoking taxpayers bear the medical costs of the addicts, particularly affecting mostly marginalized individuals like my 64-year-old toeless (frostbite) and homeless friend, who shared that he would buy cigarettes before winter gloves? I’ll never forget the suffering experienced by my WWII veteran father, who died in 1964 due to emphysema caused by smoking. I became fatherless at 11. Mike Sawyer
Pill-popper
Brooklyn: Regarding why he takes a larger dose of aspirin than is recommended by his doctor, Trump said, “They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart… I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?” Um, no, not at all. But by all means, keep doing it. Peter Magnotta

Self-destructive
Congers, N.Y.: To Voicer David DiBello: You do realize that if you get your wish and Mayor Mamdani fails, the city in which you live suffers? Doesn’t sound too smart to me. Beth Friscino
