Voices for war serve the for-profit war machine
Grahamsville, N.Y.: I just read Rabbi Dov Fischer’s despicable full-page article “So let’s say Israel agrees to full Gaza withdrawal and all Hamas demands” in The Country Vues, a weekly summer newspaper distributed voluminously throughout Sullivan County and the Borscht Belt, a large Orthodox Jewish community summer vacation area. It was full of venom and hatred, advocating violence and killing.
This letter is my plea and prayer to immediately release the innocent hostages, in whatever condition, in return for the release of the Palestinian prisoners, and to help and feed the hungry adults, children and infants, and protect medical facilities. Please give peace a chance.
Who does Fischer represent? I believe he represents or advocates for very big money and big business, which profits directly and indirectly by forcefully instigating fighting, war and indiscriminate killing of people, and allows destruction, primarily by the manufacture and mass sale of powerful bombs, air and ground artillery, bullets, guns, rifles, ammunition, aircraft, jet planes, tanks, trucks, missiles, drones and other instruments of war, like the U.S. is supplying to Israel.
In addition, spending outrageous amounts of money for espionage, provocateurs, undercover troublemakers at home and instigators of damage, injury, disruption and racial hatred at all locations and levels — all in furtherance of power. Fischer’s purpose and intent is to encourage and instigate sick, degenerate and vicious people to engage in violence and to distort and mislead law enforcement and politicians, and even the president. I submit that under Fischer’s prophecy, when the Messiah comes and we have peace in the Holy Land, the streets may glow yellow with nuclear remains. William A. Brenner
Big bruiser
Long Island City, L.I.: I was a loyal Hulkamaniac, and I was so surprised to hear that Hulk Hogan slammed 520-pound André the Giant and pinned him at WrestleMania III in 1987. I heard this on 1010 WINS radio. I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy. Steve Chaddock
Bad for them & us
Yorktown Heights, N.Y.: Is there a product on the market that causes more suffering than a glue trap? Animals stuck on glue traps are terrified and struggle in vain to escape, often having skin, fur or feathers torn off. Attempts to escape can also result in injured organs and broken and chewed limbs. The nonstop agony can last for days until the animal dies from shock or dehydration. There are many other methods for rodent management, with the best being maximum cleanliness, keeping food in sturdy containers, and using sealed bins for garbage. If food isn’t available, rodents won’t stay and reproduce. Other methods include sealing holes with ammonia-soaked cotton, and mint sprays and pouches. If traps are needed, then more humane ones exist. Furthermore, the CDC advises against using glue traps because urine, feces and blood stuck on traps put people who handle them in contact with pathogens. James Scotto
Not destitute
St. Albans: I can’t believe that people come to food pantries in a car. They can afford gas but not food. The people who do this should be banned from all pantries citywide. Leslie Langer
Naughty neighbor
Bronx: Living in an apartment building for years, you get to know your neighbors and maybe even develop a relationship with some. With NYC’s many apartment buildings, everyone tries to look out for one another. Unfortunately, there are some unneighborly individuals living among us. They are the ones who make it uncomfortable by stealing packages that are delivered to the tenants in the building. After having some issues with packages delivered, then miraculously disappearing from in front of the door, a ring camera was placed. It was very shocking to watch it and witness a neighbor taking packages that don’t belong to them. This was not a new tenant or someone who was not a friend. This was someone who, for 20-plus years, was thought of as a trusted neighbor. There are a million stories in the naked city. This will go down as one of them. Arlana Solomon Girven Walker
Crime rate reduction
Massapequa, L.I.: To Voicer Phil Antico: The reason the liberal left and the mainstream media get away with saying crime is down is very simple. Liberal prosecutors in all major cities either plea bargain a felony down to a misdemeanor or they drop the case entirely, allowing them to manipulate the crime numbers. The sad part is that some people actually believe them. Tom Ascher
Softened on crime
Malverne, L.I.: To all my Voicer friends: You may cite as many numbers from around the country as you want. When I was a precinct crime analysis sergeant for the NYPD, there was one thing I always said: Figures lie and liars figure. Statistics can be run to support whatever viewpoint or narrative you want. The true “statistic” is the general sentiment of the people. This aside, one only has to look back to our own history for facts. Under the leadership of Gov. George Pataki and Mayor Rudy Giuliani, NYC made many inroads in subduing crime in the city. Due to its success, it was a model used around the country! This continued under Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who ran as a Republican and then an Independent in his third term. Even though we had several Democratic governors during this time, it wasn’t until Andrew Cuomo’s second term that the problem really started. Dave Kalin
Real dummy
Utica, N.Y.: Has there ever been a more pathetic sight than President Trump sitting there like Walter the Puppet while Vladimir Putin went on and on about their meeting, speaking for both of them like he was Jeff Dunham? When Trump’s turn to speak finally came, he stood up, tried to look tough and powerfully proclaimed, “What he said!” while the Free World’s heart sank. The last time such a sorry sight occurred was at Helsinki in 2018, when Trump (surprise!) meekly accepted Putin’s intelligence findings over our own, declaring that Russia never interfered in the 2016 presidential election (in Trump’s favor), and opined that “both countries have made mistakes” and that both were to blame for the poor state of U.S./Russia relations. This weakness displayed by Trump and his Republican abetters is lethal for our own democracy and for the whole world. Jeff and Joan Ganeles
Book backlash
Melbourne, Australia: Like many outsiders, I am fascinated by U.S. politics but don’t fully understand it, so I decided to read a few books — specifically, “Fear: Trump in the White House” by Bob Woodward and “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir” by John Bolton. I expected a range of opinions but found similar outlooks. Both books described the workings of the Trump presidency, although not in a flattering way. So far, there hasn’t been a successful attempt to sue either author, though Trump has tried. Given that the president doesn’t seem to appreciate any criticism, the raid on Bolton’s house and office by the Trump Department of Justice could be seen as an act of retaliation for his book. If you don’t want to be criticized for your work performance, then do the job properly, fairly and without bias or favor. Both books are excellent reads. Dennis Fitzgerald
Concerning comments
Whiting, N.J.: Voicer Paul Bloustein writes that the Democratic Party needs to remember how to “lose with grace.” Seriously? He also describes Trump as “boisterous” and exuberant, and references reading tea leaves and Dems being confined to a kennel. Might be time for someone in this man’s family to do a welfare check on this gentleman. Bill McConnell
Incentivized to lie
Jacksonville, Fla.: Of course, imprisoned for contributing to the sex trafficking and abuse of young girls, Ghislaine Maxwell didn’t implicate the White House’s Orange Man with participating in the sick Jeffrey Epstein’s orgies with young girls! It was a staged, rehearsed interview with the Orange Man’s former criminal defense lawyer and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, in order to obtain a full pardon from The Donald! It’s the old adage: “Kiss butt and get out of jail free! Carl J.C. Hafner
