Karen Huger, a star of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” reality show, has been sentenced to one year in prison for driving under the influence.
Huger, 61, was convicted of DUI last year following a March 19, 2024 solo crash in Potomac, Maryland where she crashed her Maserati into a street pole and sign while drunk. She was cleared of a reckless driving charge by the jury.
Body camera footage from the incident showed Huger visibly intoxicated, slurring her speech, refusing a breathalyzer and sobriety tests.
On Wednesday, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Terrence McGann sentenced Huger to two years in jail — with one suspended — five years of probation and ordered her to pay $2,900 in fines.
She will be barred from driving for a year after her release and could be sent back to jail to serve the suspended part of her sentence if she violates parole. Prosecutors said Huger had at least three other alcohol-related traffic cases, though none of which ended with jail time.
“Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous behavior. We prosecute thousands of D.U.I. cases every year and take them seriously,” Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in a statement.
“This defendant’s case was not handled any differently based on the facts and her traffic history. We encourage the public to always drive sober and practice safety on the roads.”
In a pre-taped video during a recent reunion special for the reality show, Huger announced she had checked into rehab for treatment for abuse of alcohol and antidepressant medication.
