In the 90210, Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane are happier together.
The actress, 53, opened up about her marriage to Eric Dane after filing to dismiss their 2018 divorce in March.
The couple, who share kids Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, tied the knot in 2004 before separating 15 years later.
“We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,” Gayheart told E! News on Wednesday. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.”
Despite their ups and downs, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum doesn’t consider their relationship any less of a success.
“I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season,” admitted Gayheart. “It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
A day after Gayheart’s comments, Dane, 52, announced he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
ALS is a rare degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord along with causing progressive loss of muscle control. The disease has long been nickname Lou Gehrig’s disease after the iconic baseball player who had the condition in the 1930s.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane told People in a statement on Thursday. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of EUPHORIA next week,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum continued. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane is set to reprise his role as Cal Jacobs, the father of Jacob Elordi’s character, Nate Jacobs, on Season 3 of the HBO drama.
After years of delays, the “Last Ship” actor will begin filming his scenes on April 14, per People.
Along with getting back to acting, Dane and Gayheart also remain a united front.
The pair tied the knot in Vegas on Oct. 29, 2004, with the actor telling Flaunt magazine in 2008 about how they met: “It’s probably one of the least interesting stories in the world. It went basically like this: ‘You wanna go out?’ ‘Yeah, sure.’ Ten months later, we were married.”
In 2009, scandal rocked the couple after a video starring the pair and former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche surfaced on Gawker.com. The footage showed the trio nude in a tub.
Dane and Gayheart’s rep, Marty Singer, released a statement denying it was a sex tape and instead saying it was “a private, consensual moment involving a married couple, shot several years ago, which was never intended to be seen by the public.”
“It is a private tape made for only my clients’ personal use, and nobody has the right to exploit it. If anyone exploits the tape, they will be violating my clients’ rights and will be exposed to significant liability,” Singer explained at the time.
Following the tape and Dane briefly entering rehab to get off of pain medication, the star spoke to People about his past flaws.
“We’ve all made mistakes,” Dane said in 2014. “My one regret is that I got the person I love most wrapped up in all that: Rebecca.”
“I never had a family, and now I do,” he said of his wife and daughters. “I know I’m a very lucky guy.”
By 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce from Dane, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. She requested joint legal and physical custody of Billie and Georgia along with spousal support.
“After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,” Dane said in a statement at the time.
“We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives.”
After news broke, Gayheart posted a photo of herself and their daughters via Instagram.
“Holding onto my girls tight and loving them hard today,” she penned. “So many broken hearts and shattered dreams.”
