Losing a friend in Hollywood — what, like it’s hard?
Earlier this week, Reese Witherspoon revealed that a fellow Hollywood actress allegedly ended their friendship after she called out their idea to get “laser hair removal” while presenting her with an award.
Witherspoon refused to name the star during the interview — but now, after some sleuthing, fans seemingly have identified the mystery woman.
According to Just Jared, the celeb in question is Kate Winslet.
During the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards, Witherspoon presented the “Titanic” star with the artist of the year award.
The “Big Little Lies” star kicked off her speech on stage by telling the audience, “I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes and have savoir-faire and gravitas.”
“Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my doorbell and said, ‘Darling, Sam [Mendes] is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date? And oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?’”
Witherspoon went on to praise Winslet for her fearlessness — but also called her out for “pee[ing] all over herself in front of Harvey Keitel” in “Holy Smoke.”
Continuing the teasing tone, the “You’re Cordially Invited” star said the other stories she wanted to share were “too bawdy or tawdy or drunken to tell,” including the time they “contemplated laser hair removal.”
On Wednesday, Witherspoon revealed their alleged fallout in an interview with People.
“It literally haunts me,” she told the outlet, “So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her.”
Witherspoon added that the event was “British,” “elegant” and “classy” and that she got the tone completely wrong while cracking jokes on stage.
“I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’ ” she recalled. “I’m still embarrassed about it.”
And from there, the A-lister, now dubbed Winslet, stopped talking to her all together.
“We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore,” she continued with a laugh. “I think she doesn’t like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”
Reps for Witherspoon and Winslet did not immediately respond to the Post’s requests for comment.
