Rep. Lawler backs Trump sending National Guard into NYC to fight crime

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) endorsed the possibility of President Trump sending National Guard troops to New York to fight City crime.

“I’d rather all of the above,” Lawler said Sunday of the National Guard being deployed alongside the FBI and local police in response to questions on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Host Margaret Brennan asked the New York rep if he was comfortable using federal taxpayer dollars to deploy the troops to the Empire State — something that Trump has floated doing, like he has in Washington, DC.

“Crime has been a problem in New York for years, and [Gov.] Kathy Hochul in Albany and New York City Democrats to tackle this crime crisis,” Lawler shot back.

He also pointed out that Hochul mobilized National Guard troops to patrol the subway system in New York.

The National Guard troops deployed to the nation’s capital have not been making arrests, but have been working alongside the FBI and local police to take town crime in DC.

Trump said Friday his next focus on crime crackdown will be in Chicago, and NYC will be next after that.

“I think Chicago will be our next [stop] and then we’ll help with New York,” he said in the Oval Office.
