“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Karen Huger is a free woman after spending six months behind bars for drunk driving.
In March 2024, Huger was arrested after crashing her Maserati into several street signs near her home in Montgomery County, Maryland. In released bodycam footage, the reality star is seen visibly intoxicated as she stumbles and struggles to speak while officers ask her questions about the incident.
The 62-year-old was arrested and charged with DUI and DWI. Huger was also hit with additional charges including negligent driving, failure to control vehicle speed, driving with suspended registration, and recklessly driving a vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for the safety of persons and property.
Huger was found guilty in December of all the charges against her, except reckless driving.
Following the verdict, Huger told fans in a video that she’s “not an alcoholic,” but would be entering a rehab program in Florida to “get to the bottom” of her drinking habit.
“This is very frightening but I accept full responsibility for everything that went on with my car accident,” she said. “I don’t care about me right now. I care about my children, I care about my family. They are so hurt.”
In February, the entrepreneur was sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended. The judge blasted the state’s six-month sentencing suggestion, citing Huger’s three previous alcohol-related arrests between 2006 and 2011.
It unclear why she was released from jail six months early, but she’ll remain on probation for the next five years. If Huger violates the terms, which include not driving for one year, she’ll be required to serve an additional year behind bars.
