Rapper Rod Wave was arrested Friday in Atlanta on drug and weapons offenses, just hours after he earned his very first Grammy nomination.
The 27-year-old performer, whose real name is Rodarius Green, was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department and booked into the Fulton County Jail, where he remained overnight, according to online records.
He’s facing counts including possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and reckless driving.
Drew Findling, his attorney, told TMZ on Saturday he already had his first appearance in court, where they agreed to an $8,000 bond. He added that the rapper would not stay locked up for long.
What exactly prompted the Florida-born hitmaker’s arrest is unclear, but it marks his third this year. He found himself behind bars in May on 14 charges after he was accused of firing off his Glock 20 10mm semi-automatic pistol at his recently burglarized Atlanta-area home following a disagreement with his realtors.
Green ultimately surrendered to authorities and he was charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses, tampering with evidence and related crimes before he was released on $50,000 bond.
The rapper found himself booked into jail again in June, likely because the incident put him in violation of an active bond order related to a 2020 battery incident.
Green, a St. Petersburg native, launched his music career while he was still a student at Lakewood High School, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He burst into the industry with the startup label, Alamo Records, in 2018, and just two years later, he cracked the Billboard Hot 100 with his song “Heart on Ice.”
On Friday, the rapper received his first Grammy nomination — a nod in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category for “Sinners,” from the film of the same name.
