Debris and sheet metal panels rained down from a Con Edison facility rooftop Saturday afternoon amid high winds in the current Arctic chill gripping the city, FDNY said.
First responders rushed to the scene where debris fell from the structure around 3:50 p.m. near 12th Ave. and W. 58th St. in Hell’s Kitchen.
The NYPD shut down the street for around an hour as Con Edison and city Department of Buildings officials assessed the incident.
The site is home to Con Edison’s landmarked 59th St. Steam Station, which provides steam for hot water, heat and cooling to more than 1,500 Manhattan buildings.
No one was injured in the incident.
The FDNY believed the fallen debris was caused by high winds as temperatures in the Big Apple dove close to zero degrees with winds of 20 mph to 25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph on Saturday.
