Whatever happens on Oscars night, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” has already won big — raking in the most Oscar nominations ever for a single movie.
Actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced the nominees early Thursday for the 98th Oscars, which will air March 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, with a first-ever livestream on Hulu.
Few will be shocked to learn that “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” are both up for Best Picture. The former leads with 16 nods, shattering the record of 14 nominations, which was previously held jointly by “All About Eve,” Titanic” and “La La Land.”
While both film’s respective stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael B. Jordan as well as directors Anderson and Coogler have long been seen as the frontrunners in the Best Actor and Director categories, other contenders like “Marty Supreme” star Timothée Chalamet and director Josh Safdie have been touted as potential usurpers.
