A South Jersey man fatally shot a woman and wounded a child at a home Saturday morning, authorities said.
Ramon Luis Acevedo, a 40-year-old Paulsboro man, was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault and a weapons crime in the disturbing case, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office said in a press release.
The victims have not been publicly identified, and authorities did not release any information about any prior relationship between Acevedo and the victims.
However, Acevedo told police he intentionally killed the woman with a bullet to the head, then accidentally shot the child while he was startled and still holding the weapon, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Cops responded to the scene, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia International Airport, around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. Officers found the woman dead in the bedroom from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities also located a child who had fled the home after being shot, prosecutors said. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Acevedo told responding officers he was the one who called 911 and identified himself as the killer, authorities said. He faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted on the murder charge.
