South Korea actress Kim Sae-ron, who was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon, died by suicide, authorities said Monday.
Kim, 24, was a child star in South Korea and appeared in several films and TV dramas, including a Netflix series titled “Bloodhounds.”
On Sunday evening, a friend who was supposed to meet Kim found her dead in her Seoul apartment. Initial investigators said there were no signs of foul play at the scene.
“We believe she made an extreme choice and plan to handle it as a suicide,” a police official told Korea’s Yonhap News Agency on Monday.
Cops said Kim left behind no note in her apartment, according to Yonhap.
Kim had been a star since she was 9 years old, when she appeared in “A Brand New World.” The movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, and Kim’s performance was praised despite her young age.
She went on to star in more films as a child and teenager, and she led a couple short-lived drama series on TV, including “The Queen’s Classroom” and “Hi! School: Love On.”
In 2022, Kim’s career went sideways when she was arrested for drunk driving. Though the one-car crash did not injure anyone else, Kim was heavily criticized in the South Korean media and withdrew from acting. The criminal charges resulted in a fine of approximately $14,000.
Her final role, in 2023’s “Bloodhounds,” was reportedly cut down in post-production following the crash.
