‘Space Ghost’ voice actor George Lowe dies at 67

George Lowe, a veteran voice actor known for playing the title role on Adult Swim’s “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” has died.

He was 67 years old.

No cause of death was released, but he was described as having endured a long illness.

Lowe began working in Florida radio as a teen and started voice acting in the 1980s. He landed the role of Space Coast, a Hanna Barbera creation, in 1994. The parody of talk shows, where Space Ghost interviewed real celebrities, ran on Cartoon Network from 1994 to 1999 before it was brought back for the channel’s Adult Swim programming block from 2001 until 2004.

Lowe also appeared in other animated shows and movies like “The Brak Show,” “Sealab 2021,” “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters,” “Jellystone,” “American Dad” and “Robot Chicken.”

According to Pitchfork, Lowe was also an accomplished visual artist who had work showcased at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art and Baltimore’s American Visionary Art Museum, among other institutions.

“Perhaps, one youngster staring at something in my collection, or at a work of mine, will be touched like I was…and they, too, will become inspired to pick up a pencil and discover their own true voice,” he told the Baltimore museum in an interview.

Friend “Marvelous Marvin” Boone paid tribute to Lowe on Facebook.

“I’m beyond devastated,” Boone captioned of photo of himself with Lowe. “My Zobanian brother and best friend for over 40 years, George Lowe, has passed away after a long illness. A part of me had also died. He was a supremely talented Artist and Voice actor. A true warm hearted Genius. Funniest man on Earth too. I’ve stolen jokes from him for decades. He stole some of mine. He was also the voice of Space Ghost and so much more. Pweeloto.”
