Late-night service on the No. 4 subway train through Manhattan and the Bronx will be slower through the third week of February as the MTA replaces switch tracks between the two boroughs — and weekend service will soon be affected as well.
Beginning this week, the No. 4 train is running in two, noncontiguous sections between 11:45 p.m. and 5 a.m.
No. 4 trains will run between the Woodlawn and 149th St.–Grand Concourse stations in the Bronx, and also between the Third Ave.–138th St. No. 6 train station and the New Lots Ave. terminus in Brooklyn. In Manhattan, the No. 4 will run on the local tracks typically occupied by the No. 6 and make all local stops.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the same changes will go into effect during weekend daytime hours as well, with the No. 5 train serving as a shuttle between Eastchester-Dyre Ave and E 180th St.
No. 6 service — as well as weekday, daytime service on the Nos. 4 and 5 — will be unaffected.
During the outage, MTA work crews will be replacing a set of nearly 40-year-old switch tracks south of 138th St.-Grand Concourse.
The work is expected to wrap up by Feb. 23.
