Surfing company claims Lady Gaga ripped off ‘Mayhem’ album logo

A surfboard company is suing Lady Gaga, claiming that the singer stole their logo for her new album cover.

Court documents obtained by TMZ, state that Lost International filed the suit against the Grammy winner, arguing that they’ve owned the rights to use the stylised version of the word ‘Mayhem’ on their surfboards and merchandise since 2015.

The company also included a side-by-side comparison of their logo next to Gaga’s “Mayhem” album cover, saying the “Born this Way” singer is misappropriating their design without their permission.

The musician’s lawyer, Orin Snyder, released a statement saying: “Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM soared to No.1 and shattered records, a testament to her unmatched talent and global impact.

“It’s disappointing — but hardly surprising — that someone is now attempting to capitalize on her success with a baseless lawsuit over the name MAYHEM. This is nothing more than an opportunistic and meritless abuse of the legal system.”

The company says they initially brought their concerns to Gaga, but she proceeded to use the logo on the album, leaving them with no choice but to take legal action.

Lost International is suing to stop her from using the design and they’re also seeking damages that include any money she has made from it.

Meanwhile the Grammy winner says the inspiration behind her seventh studio album, released on March 7, is breaking “a lot of rules.”

“Mayhem is utter chaos! It breaks a lot of rules and has a lot of fun,” she told Elle. “It’s about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life it takes you.”
