Surveillance pics released of gunman wanted in slay of woman, 21, chased into Queens home

The NYPD on Tuesday released surveillance images of the gunman wanted for shooting a 21-year-old woman to death as he chased her into her Queens home — and asked the public’s help identifying him.

The killer clearly targeted Dashanna Donovan when he shot her last Friday, police said, though the motive is not yet clear.

“He had a motive,” Donovan’s mother, Helena Hypolite, told the Daily News Sunday. “He knew why. He knew what he was doing.”

Dashanna had just finished her shift at McDonald’s and had already put the keys in the back door of her East Elmhurst home on 96th St. near Astoria Blvd. when the gunman came up on her. Donovan, who had stopped to talk to a friend, then tried to find safety as she dashed inside.

But the killer followed and opened fire, with Donovan collapsing in her bathroom.

Cops discovered the woman lying in the doorway of a row house on 96th St. between Astoria Blvd. and 30th Ave. in East Elmhurst around 9:20 p.m.

“Dashanna was truly special and unique to me because of her unwavering kindness, genuine compassion and positive attitude,” Hypolite said. “She consistently went above and beyond to support those around her, bringing warmth and comfort that made everyone feel valued. Her resilience and dedication during difficult times inspired me, and her infectious smile could brighten any room.”

The suspect appears to be in his 20s and was wearing a blue hoodie, black pants and black sneakers. He was carrying a black bookbag.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
