Suspect arrested for murder in Bronx road rage shooting of Navy veteran

A suspect has been arrested for murder in the Bronx road rage shooting of a young U.S. Navy veteran, police said Monday.

Michael Aracena, 20, was charged with murder, manslaughter and weapon possession late Sunday, cops said. He allegedly shot 27-year-old Keino Campbell to death during a 2 a.m. Saturday confrontation.

The victim was driving a 2012 gray Infiniti near Co-op City when he got into a road rage argument with his killer, police said. Campbell was shot three times in the chest as the quarrel escalated.

The mortally wounded victim sped off but fell unconscious behind the wheel a few blocks away near Givan and Palmer Aves. in Baychester, police said.

Medics rushed Campbell to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

“I would rather my son be alive right now than me because I know he would do such great things in this world if he had a chance,” Campbell’s devastated mother, Suzette Thomas told the Daily News Sunday. “I’m so heartbroken.”

Campbell served at a military base in San Diego from 2019 to 2022, relatives said. And when his dreams of becoming a pilot were cut short because of eyesight issues, he dreamed instead of working in security and as an electrical engineer, for which he planned to go back to school, according to his family.

“He wanted to do security for the White House to be honest. He said it would take a while to get there but he was telling me all these steps,” his mother said. “This boy always thought ahead because he wanted to make sure his family wasn’t in poverty. He dreamed big.”

Aracena lives on the Upper West Side, according to cops. His arraignment was pending in Bronx Criminal Court Monday.
