A suspect has been arrested for stabbing and wounding a stranger during morning rush hour on a Manhattan subway platform two months ago, police said Wednesday.
Christopher Betancourt, 25, was nabbed Tuesday and charged with assault for allegedly stabbing a 45-year-old man during an argument on the L train platform at the Union Square station about 9:50 a.m. Dec. 10.
The victim and Betancourt, strangers to each other, started arguing on an Eighth Ave.-bound train, with the clash growing more heated when they stepped off the train.
The victim was stabbed multiple times in the back as the quarrel escalated, police said.
The attacker escaped on Brooklyn-bound L train, leaving the knife at the scene. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
The jacket of the victim, who is homeless and has at least 16 prior arrests, potentially saved his life, ABC 7 New York reported at the time.
Cops released surveillance images of the suspect the next day and asked the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down.
Betancourt lives in Brooklyn’s Starrett City, according to cops. His arraignment was pending in Manhattan Criminal Court Wednesday.
