The young man suspected of fatally shooting “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca earlier this month allegedly used the couple’s own gun to kill them before calling the police on himself.
Raymond Boodarian, 22, has been charged with murdering the 70-year-old couple while ransacking their multimillion-dollar estate in the Encino area of Los Angeles.
Following the slayings, Boodarian called the cops on his cellphone, gave them his name and was arrested after his location was tracked down, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said at a Monday night town hall.
It’s unclear when exactly Boodarian contacted authorities. He was taken into custody last Tuesday, one day after the couple were found dead, though they’re believed to have been killed the previous Thursday.
Police initially received a call about a suspected burglar at the Encino property on July 10, according to a felony complaint obtained by People. When officers arrived on the scene, they did not see any signs of a struggle or forced entry, so they decided against attempting to enter the heavily fortified home.
Kaye and Deluca were not found until four days later when officers returned to the residence to carry out a welfare check. They had both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their pool cleaner, Mauro Quintero, told ABC7 Los Angeles last week that the residence was broken into “more than a month ago,” and authorities are investigating whether the two break-ins are related.
Boodarian last week was charged with two counts of murder and one count of residential burglary with a person present, according to Fox 11 Los Angeles.
The slayings came just months after a judge in December made the grave decision to dismiss previous cases against Boodarian involving charges for suspicion of threat, weapons offenses and battery — all stemming from alleged misdemeanor incidents involving his family, per KABC.
Boodarian at the time had completed a mental health evaluation and been placed under a conservatorship, according to court records cited by NBC Los Angeles.
