Suspect in Bronx NYCHA killing charged with murder, held without bail

The suspect accused of stabbing a 35-year-old man during a fatal clash in a Bronx NYCHA apartment building was charged with murder and ordered held without bail at his court appearance Friday afternoon.

Enoch Rosado, 67, was led into the courtroom at Bronx Criminal Court wearing a white jumpsuit with his hood up. Prosecutors argued to hold him without bail for the stabbing death of Miguel Batiz, 35, inside one of the Edenwald Houses at E. 229th St. near Laconia Ave around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

Cops who were called to the Housing Authority building found Batiz stabbed multiple times throughout his body, according to police. He died at the scene.

The criminal court complaint states that, according to Rosado’s statements, witnesses and surveillance footage, “(The) defendant did strike Miguel Batiz on the head with an object causing Miguel Batiz’s death.”

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested Rosado, who also lives in the building. In addition to murder, he was also charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities said Rosado and Batiz — who apparently was a chef — knew each other but it was still unclear what sparked the stabbing.

Two of Rosado’s family members were in court at his arraignment but declined to speak to press.

Rosado’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 27.
