A Bronx gunman wanted for killing a 28-year-old father during a dispute the victim had no part in has been nabbed, police said Tuesday.
Anthony Riser, 27, was arrested Monday for murder, manslaughter and gun possession for the Dec. 21 shooting of Richard Spigner Jr., outside the victim’s apartment building in West Farms.
Spigner was in the lobby chatting with a neighbor when the gunman, later identified by cops as Riser, walked in and began asking questions about one of Spigner’s friends, with whom Riser had a previous argument, the victim’s sister, Tasia Legrand explained at the time.
Spigner lent Riser his phone so the friend could be called but the call got heated and after a short while the man Spigner had been talking with in the lobby tried to grab the phone back, Legrand and police said.
That’s when Riser pulled out a gun and fired several shots, two of which hit Spigner’s face and chest, police said.
Medics rushed Spigner from his building on Rodman Place near West Farms Road to St. Barnabas Hospital but he could not be saved.
Spigner had two sons, ages 3 and 1, and had just started a new job at a nursing home days before his death, according to his sister.
On Feb. 10, the NYPD named Riser as a suspect, released a photo of him and asked the public’s help tracking him down.
