“All suspects” wanted in connection with a shooting in Spotsylvania, Virginia that left three people dead and three others wounded are in custody, authorities announced.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said it was alerted to violence on Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. When deputies arrived on the scene — in the area of Olde Greenwich Circle, some 65 miles outside of Washington D.C. — they discovered multiple people suffering gunshot wounds, three of whom were pronounced dead on the scene.
Three more people were transported to area hospitals, police said.
The ages and conditions of the victims were not immediately known, and none of their names has been released.
In the immediate aftermath of the gunfire, authorities urged residents to avoid the area while authorities searched for the suspects. Maj. Elizabeth Scott, spokesperson for the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, said during a press conference Tuesday evening that the shooting may have been committed by more than one person.
“In connection with the Olde Greenwich incident, all suspects are in custody and there is no threat to public safety,” Sheriff Roger Harris said in a social media post Wednesday morning.
He did not provide further details about the suspects nor their arrests.
Public schools in nearby Fredericksburg, Va., were also operating on a two-hour delay Wednesday because of the shooting.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred this evening in Spotsylvania,” Fredericksburg City Public Schools said. “Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this devastating loss.”
