A 63-year-old man driving an SUV died Tuesday morning after his vehicle hurtled into a detached garage in Queens, colliding with a parked car and causing the structure to collapse onto both vehicles.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4, who has not been identified, was heading east on 90th Ave. in Jamaica at about 5:20 a.m. when he suddenly hopped a curb at 143rd St., careened into a driveway at the intersection and kept going until he crashed into the garage, which contained an unoccupied Toyota Prius, cops said.
The impact caused the garage to collapse onto both vehicles, trapping the RAV4 driver.
Police responding to a 911 call found the driver stuck inside the leveled garage. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital but he could not be saved.
