Texas Senator Ted Cruz is upset the television industry didn’t acknowledge the death of slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk at Sunday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.
“Hollywood claims they’re all about free speech. And yet not even ONE of them could muster a word about @charliekirk11 being assassinated because of his speech,” the Republican lawmaker raged on social media Monday.
Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University last week. The 32-year-old Turning Point USA founder made a name for himself by going into often hostile environments like college campuses to express his often polarizing views on gender roles, gun control, civil rights legislation and other values that generally don’t coincide with Hollywood sensibilities either.
Cruz also took exception with the fact that when the award ceremony did briefly get political, that came in the form of “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder delaring “F–k ICE and free Palestine” when she was honored with the best supporting actress in a comedy award.
“But they did come out for open borders & against Israel,” Cruz groused on X.
Several TV personalities remembered Kirk after his death.
Former “Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider told Fox News Digital over the weekend that he believes “Charlie’s example is going to be vast” to a new generation of influencers. “Hercules” actor Kevin Sorbo also declared on X Monday that Kirk’s influence would inspire future activists who share right-wing views. 1995 Emmy Award winner Roseanne Barr called for “Nazis, demons, commies and pro caliphate” extremists on the far right and far left end of the political spectrum to be marginalized.
