‘Ted Lasso’ surprises fans with season 4 renewal on Apple TV+

It’s official: Emmy-winning comedy series “Ted Lasso” is returning for season 4.

Despite assumptions the show was ending with its third season in 2023, Apple TV+ confirmed on Friday that the hit Jason Sudeikis series has, in fact, been greenlit for new episodes.

Sudeikis is set to return in the titular role, alongside Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Brett Goldstein (Roy) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie). Juno Temple is reportedly still in talks to rejoin the cast in her role as Keeley, according to Deadline.

The series follows an American football coach recruited to lead the struggling English soccer team AFC Richmond.

The renewal comes nearly two years after the season 3 finale dropped in May 2023, titled “So Long, Farewell.” In the episode, Richmond plays its final match of the season just as Coach Lasso says he’s heading back to Kansas, leading many fans to believe the beloved series was over.

Picking up where last season left off, the new season will reportedly begin in Kansas before Ted Lasso heads back to the U.K.

During a Friday appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Sudeikis said the new season will also involve Ted coaching a women’s team.
