Two young teens have been charged with murder in the fatal Christmas Eve shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Delaware, authorities said.
Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, the boys — one 13 and the other 15 — walked up to a vehicle parked on Willis Road in Dover, Delaware, and fired several rounds, then fled on foot, the Dover Police Department said.
The victim, later identified as 14-year-old Juwan Walker, was taken to a nearby hospital “in a privately owned vehicle” with upper-body gunshot wounds and then flown to Nemours Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police told the Delaware News Journal.
He died of his injuries on Friday, police said in a statement.
Police did not release the young shooters’ identities or disclose a motive. Both were charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, reckless endangering, and criminal mischief, Dover police said in a statement.
They were each remanded to Stevenson House Detention Center on $181,000 cash bail, Dover police said.
