Teen killed, 6 others injured in East Hampton DUI car crash: cops

A 19-year-old Long Island woman was killed and six other teenagers injured in a drunken car crash in the Hamptons on Sunday night, police said.

Scarleth Urgiles, a student at East Hampton High, was killed in the wreck in East Hampton, Newsday reported. Urgiles was a passenger in the vehicle that crashed, investigators said.

“There are no words that can fully express the sorrow we feel for the family, friends, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking loss,” East Hampton High principal Sara Smith wrote in a letter to the community.

Luis Gonzalo Barrionuevo-Fuertes, 18, was identified by police as the driver and arrested on Sunday night, Hamptons news outlet 27east reported. Barrionuevo-Fuentes was charged with aggravated DWI and child endangerment.

Investigators said Barrionuevo-Fuentes was behind the wheel of a 2009 Toyota Camry with seven passengers crammed into the vehicle, according to the East Hampton Star. The car was traveling south on Old Stone Highway when Barrionuevo-Fuentes lost control around Deep 6 Drive and struck a tree, cops said.

All the passengers were between the ages of 15 and 19, authorities said. Jennifer Amon-Barrers, an 18-year-old woman also from East Hampton, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.
