A Long Island teenager has been arrested for a stabbing attack that killed his grandmother and wounded his mother, officials announced Tuesday.
The 15-year-old suspect, whose name hasn’t been released because of his age, is accused of attacking both women inside his mother’s home in Selden late Monday night, according to a spokesperson for the Suffolk County Police Department.
His mother, 36-year-old Vanessa Chendemi, ran out of her residence on Old Town Road at approximately 9:45 p.m. after she was allegedly stabbed by the teen, officials said.
A person driving in the area saw the victim and stopped to offer assistance. Chendemi then called 911 to report the incident.
When police arrived at the home, they found the kid’s grandmother, Concetta Chendemi, with stab wounds. The 56-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
The teen’s mother was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The young suspect fled the scene after the alleged stabbing but was arrested at Dare Road and Buckskin Lane in Selden just before 11:30 p.m.
He was charged with second-degree murder as well as attempted murder, Suffolk County police said. He’s scheduled to be arraigned later on Tuesday,
