A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured after being struck by a school bus in northeastern New Jersey Wednesday morning, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The teen, who has not been identified, was airlifted to an area hospital, Deputy Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer said, according to NJ Advance Media. The extent of her injuries is currently unclear.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. in Demarest, about 20 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan.
Police responded to the intersection of Anderson Ave. and County Rd. following reports of a crash involving a bus and a child, according to Angermeyer. The bus, operated by First Student, Inc., remained at the scene following the crash, and the driver was cooperating with police.
Demarest police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident. While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary findings suggest no criminality in the crash, according to the Daily Voice.
Authorities had not released any additional information as of Wednesday afternoon.
