Texas woman leaves baby on dad’s doorstep, texts ‘IDC. Call CPS’

A Texas woman accused of dumping a baby at her father’s doorstep also taunted him by way of text message, urging him to call child protective services on her, police said.

Ashley Bailey has been charged with a count of abandoning-endangering a child without intent to return in connection with the incident, which occurred early the morning of Aug. 20. According to a criminal complaint obtained by KWTX, she placed her baby in a car seat and then left the child outside of the father’s apartment at University Terrace Apartments in Waco.

come and get your baby … (she) is at the door. Bye,” Bailey allegedly texted the father. “Talk to you tomorrow.”

Another message read: “IDC. Call CPS [Child Protective Services] on me. Get your kid, bro.”

They were among a series of texts “begging” the father, who was not identified, to pick up his daughter, the affidavit noted.

When police responded to the building, they were met by the child’s grandmother and father, who told them about the texts. He said he received the first around 2:04 a.m. but did not see it until 2:45 a.m., meaning the child was left alone for more than 40 minutes.

It is not clear whether Bailey is the child’s mother. It’s also unclear why she had the little girl prior to her arrest. She’s currently being held at McLennan County Jail on $5,000 bond.
