At the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, medical drama “The Pitt” took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series, beating out the critically acclaimed “Severance.”
Despite “Severance” entering the ceremony with a strong advantage—four nominations, twice as many as its rival, it was the Noah Wyle–led medical series that ultimately came out on top.
The win comes four months after the ER alum also won his first Emmy for the HBO Max series. Wyle also took home an acting Golden Globe earlier in the evening for his lead role on the show as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.
Many analysts were betting on “Severance,” which returned last January with a second season that earned glowing reviews and seemed impossible top until “The Pitt” premiered around the same time and quickly started generating significant buzz after its debut.
The medical drama, executive produced by fellow ER alum John Wells, debuted as one of Max’s five most-watched original series premieres, according to the streamer.
The series highlights the chaos of an emergency room with each episode encompassing one hour of one shift in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, offering the nostalgia of old school medical dramas such as “E.R.”
Both acclaimed drama series will also go head-to-head at the 2026 Actor Awards—formerly known as the SAG Awards—on March 1.
