“Blinding Lights” was the second single from the singer’s fourth studio album, “After Hours,” and it was an instant success upon its release in November 2019.

The Weeknd’s catchy synthwave hit dominated Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for four weeks and stayed in the top 10 for a whole year, making it the first song to do so.

In November 2021, it surpassed Chubby Checker’s 1958 dance anthem “The Twist” on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Hot 100 chart, another history-making accomplishment.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” success didn’t stop there.

Fast-forward to January 2024, when the yearsold song became the first to reach four billion streams on Spotify.

At the time, he released a statement about the achievement.

“I’ll never stop being humbled by anything I create making its way to millions of people let alone billions!” The Weeknd said in response. “I’m so thankful this song makes people feel a way that they keep going back to listen.”

“Blinding Lights” is also one of The Weeknd’s 28 songs with a home in Spotify’s Billions Club, more than any other artist, according to Billboard.

Despite the song’s success, it never earned The Weeknd a Grammy or nomination.

“Blinding Lights,” however, won other trophies at shows like the MTV Video Music Awards (2020), iHeartRadio Music Awards (2021) and Billboard Music Awards (2021).
