Third Disney property death in 10 days ruled a suicide

The third person to die at a Disney property in 10 days committed suicide, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office in Florida.

Matthew Cohn, 28, died last Thursday from “multiple traumatic injuries” after jumping from a building at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Florida, the coroner’s office told EW and TMZ.

His was the second suicide this month at the resort, authorities said, coming exactly 10 days after the Oct. 14 death of 31-year-old Summer Equitz, who jumped from the main building. Cohn reportedly leaped from an upper balcony in the resort’s Bay Tower, which connects to the rest of the complex via a sky bridge. Both are a short walk to the Magic Kingdom.

Witnesses and other guests posted videos and photos of the enormous police presence they awoke to on Thursday morning, and their shock when speculation about a death was borne out. They said Disney staff knocked on their doors and told them not to look out their windows, while other personnel shielded hallway windows from prying eyes.

Disney has seen a spate of deaths at its properties this month. Cohn’s death occurred just two days after a man in his 60s suffered a fatal medical episode at Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. About 2,500 miles away on Oct. 8, a woman also in her 60s died after becoming unresponsive on Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride in Anaheim, California.
