Tire thief in Conn. crashes into police car while fleeing: cops



A man caught trying to steal tires off vehicles in a parking lot in Farmington, Conn., has been arrested after slamming into a police cruiser, authorities said Tuesday.

Bryant Serrano, 26, of Hartford, was discovered by Farmington Police officers just before 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn hotel on Colt Highway.

According to police, officers attempted to stop him but he refused and fled the scene in an unregistered Toyota Avalon with used plates.

As Serrano drove away, he reportedly crashed the Toyota into a police cruiser , according to NBC Connecticut. He then exited the car and continued to flee on foot.

The suspect reportedly ran into a wooded area as officers from UConn Health Center, New Britain, and Plainville responded to the scene and helped to maintain a perimeter, local television station WFSB reported.

The Farmington Police’s K9 unit and a drone were also used in the search, officials said.

Serrano was found hiding in the woods and arrested around 3:30 a.m. He faces multiple charges, including larceny, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with an officer/resisting and reckless driving.

He’s currently being held on a $75,000 bond, officials said.
