Tobey Maguire files for joint custody 5 years into divorce

Tobey Maguire has filed for joint custody of his teen son, nearly five years after announcing his divorce from ex-wife Jennifer Meyer, who’s currently engaged to the son of billionaire Adebayo Ogunlesi.

The “Spider-Man” star, 50, is seeking joint legal and physical custody of 15-year-old Otis, and wants a private mediator to determine child and spousal support, per documents obtained by People.

Maguire and the 48-year-old jewelry designer also share daughter Ruby, who recently celebrated her 18th birthday.

The couple, who wed in 2007, confirmed their split in 2016, telling Us Weekly in a joint statement that they had separated following “much soul searching and consideration.” They said co-parenting with “enduring love, respect and friendship” would remain their “first priority.”

Insiders at the time told Us and People that they’d “been living separate lives for a while,” due to “completely different interests,” such as Maguire being an “extremely private” homebody and Meyer being “very social.”

Still, Meyer held off on formally filing for divorce until 2020, when she requested joint legal and physical custody of their two kids.

Maguire’s latest move in the divorce comes nearly a year after Meyer announced that she was engaged to Geoffrey Ogunlesi, son of Nigerian investment banker and lawyer Adebayo Ogunlesi.

The couple made their red carpet debut in November 2023, just a few months after they were initially linked, People reported at the time.

All the while, the former spouses have remained close friends. In June of last year, Meyer celebrated Father’s Day by dubbing Maguire the “greatest dad/X/bff!,” calling him the “most loyal, loving, generous, ride-or-die human being.”
