A 2-year-old was struck and killed by a car at a Long Island state park on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The unidentified toddler was at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon when they were struck by a 2016 Acura in a parking lot around 2:45 p.m., New York State Police said in a press release.
First responders took the child to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, where the toddler was pronounced dead, Newsday reported.
The Acura driver immediately called 911 and cooperated with investigators at the scene about 30 miles east of Central Park, state police said. Cops determined the crash was a tragic accident and no criminal charges would be filed. The driver was not publicly identified.
The car-child collision in Belmont Lake State Park was not the only deadly vehicular accident on Long Island on Sunday.
About 10 miles west in East Meadow, a 55-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash between a Nissan Altima and a Nissan Maxima, Nassau County police said in an alert.
The Altima was driven by a 57-year-old woman with the 55-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman as passengers, according to investigators. The vehicle collided with the Maxima, driven by a 40-year-old woman, at the intersection of Salisbury Park Dr. and Carman Ave.
While the 55-year-old man was killed in the wreck, the other three victims suffered minor injuries and are expected to recover. Cops did not publicly identify any of the victims.
