A commercial train plowed into a car in New Jersey, leaving one person seriously injured, according to authorities.
The collision occurred early Monday evening in in Newfield, a small borough in Gloucester County with a population of about 1,500. Officers with the Franklin Township responded to the site of the crash, in the area of Catawba Avenue, where they discovered a woman seriously injured.
She was transported by helicopter to to Cooper Hospital in critical condition, according to a press released from the Franklin Township Police Department. Her exact status was not clear as of Tuesday morning. Neither her name nor age have been released.
The cause of the crash also remained unclear. Images from the scene, taken by CBS, see the train beside a damaged orange vehicle, which is situated diagonally across the train tracks.
In wake of the incident, “Catawba Ave in both directions will be closed until further notice and West Blvd will be closed from Catawba Ave and Greenwood Ave,” police said.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
