Trenton man murders girlfriend, dumps body in Pennsylvania

A New Jersey man fatally shot his girlfriend in her car, then drove the vehicle to Pennsylvania and dumped her body there, authorities said Monday.

Lamont Truitt, a 36-year-old Trenton resident, was charged with first-degree murder and several other crimes in the killing of 32-year-old Alyssia Murphy on Sunday morning, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

Murphy and a 25-year-old friend were sitting in a car in Trenton when Truitt began arguing with Murphy while standing outside the vehicle, investigators said. Truitt then pulled a handgun and allegedly fired several shots at the car, killing Murphy and wounding her friend.

The 25-year-old friend escaped the vehicle and called 911, while Truitt hopped in and drove the car from Trenton across the Delaware River to Lower Makefield Township, Pa. He then ditched the car and fled the scene, according to authorities.

New Jersey cops found the 25-year-old woman at the scene of the initial shooting, while Pennsylvania cops located Murphy’s body inside her vehicle.

While cops were investigating the case, Truitt turned himself in Sunday to the Trenton Police Department. In addition to murder, he was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking and three weapons offenses.
