Truck driver charged in hit-run that critically injured man outside Central Park

A truck driver who struck and dragged a pedestrian — who then was hit by a yellow taxi while critically injured in the street — has been charged in the shocking crash just outside Central Park, police said Thursday.

Luis Cedeno Pluas, 59, was behind the wheel of an Isuzu box truck when he bashed into the victim around 6 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2024, cops said.

The victim, who is homeless, was standing in the right-most lane of W. 59th St. near Sixth Ave. when Cedeno Pluas, heading west, slammed into him and kept on going, according to police.

The victim was dragged by the truck for several feet and was lying critically injured in the street when a 63-year-old yellow cab driver hit him. Medics took him to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition.

Cedeno Pluas, of the Bronx, was arrested Thursday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries.

Since the crash, the victim’s condition has improved, and he is expected to fully recover while receiving care at a long-term rehabilitation center.
