Trump claims he won golf championship at his Florida club

President Donald Trump is taking credit for winning another golf championship.

“I just won the Golf Club Championship, probably my last, at Trump International Golf Club, in Palm Beach County, Florida,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform Sunday. “Such a great honor!”

Trump thanked the “many fantastic golfers” who participated, and declared the event “Such fun!”

He said his club would host a Sunday night awards dinner celebrating his victory.

The White House posted photos of the president dressed in golfing attire the previous evening while watching U.S. forces hit Houthis rebels in Yemen who’ve been targeting Israeli and U.S. vessels in the Red Sea. The Houthi-run Health Ministry said the overnight U.S. strikes killed at least 53 people, the Associated Press reported.

Trump, who won the 2024 presidential election with 49.9% of the vote, warned Houthis on Truth Social “Do NOT threaten the American People, their President, who has received one of the largest mandates in Presidential History, or Worldwide shipping lanes.”

In 2019, former Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly penned a book about the ways Trump allegedly cheats at golf including taking credit for winning competitions where he wasn’t present, according to an excerpt cited by the Palm Beach Post.

Reilly notes Trump has never claimed victory for winning a club tournament outside the championships he claimed at venues the president owns and operates. Reilly also wrote in “Commander in Chief” the president kicks the ball closer to the hole in order to win games.

If Reilly is right, Trump wouldn’t be the first world leader to exaggerate his accomplishments on the links. North Korean state media reported former leader Kim Jong-Il shot 11 holes-in-one the first time he golfed.

Trump’s courses overseas haven’t been so lucky. Protesters dug up greens and planted Palestinian flags in the lawn of his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, Ireland last week. Days earlier, pro-Palestine activists appear to have targeted his club in Scotland with red spray paint.
