Trump reflects on stabbing, arrest of ‘nice guy’ Mark Sanchez

President Trump reflected on the recent stabbing and arrest of “nice guy” Mark Sanchez, speculating that “something a little crazy” must have happened between the former Jets quarterback and his truck driver victim.

I don’t know what happened,” Trump said during a Monday appearance on “Greg Kelly Reports.”

“Something bad happened. Something a little crazy happened,” he continued. “I can only report that he was a nice guy. I know him a little bit.”

Sanchez is facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury and three misdemeanors in connection with the altercation in Indianapolis on Saturday. He’d been in the area to serve as an analyst on Fox Sports’ broadcast of the Sunday matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to a police affidavit, Sanchez, who allegedly reeked of alcohol at the time, confronted Perry Tole after he backed into Westin Hotel’s loading docks just after midnight. Tole, who works for a company that exchanges commercial frying oil, has since filed a lawsuit against Sanchez and others.

Tole, 69, alleged the ex-Jet attempted to climb into the cab of his truck multiple times and shoved him when he tried to get his cellphone from inside. Concerned for his safety, Tole said he grabbed pepper spray and used that in bid to scare off Sanchez. It “appeared to have an effect,” but only briefly, according to the affidavit, so Tole grabbed a knife to protect himself.

Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso, according to a police affidavit. And while he has not spoken publicly since, his family released a statement on Monday addressing the violence.

“This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved. Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days,” his brother, Nick, said in a statement to TMZ Sports.

“Mark remains under medical care for the serious injuries he sustained and is focused on his recovery as the legal process continues,” the family added. “We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff.”
