Trump to host Ciattarelli phone rally in tight NJ governor’s race

President Trump is phoning it in for Republican Jack Ciattarelli as New Jersey’s gubernatorial race tightens.

Ciattarelli’s campaign said Friday that the President will be on the line for a 7 p.m. “Tele-Rally” to encourage early voting.

“The stakes couldn’t be higher — and on November 4th, we’re sending a powerful message to the nation: New Jersey is ready for change,” the campaign said.

Ciattarelli is running against Democrat Rep. Mikie Sherrill in a race the Democrat leads by five points, according to a Rutgers University Poll released Thursday. A Fairleigh-Dickinson University poll published Oct. 17 showed Sherrill holding a seven point advantage.

Former President Barack Obama endorsed Sherrill last week and plans to campaign with her in Newark on Nov. 1.

“Mikie’s integrity, grit and commitment to service is what we need right now in our leaders,” Obama said in a campaign video posted online.

Trump, who owns two golf courses in the Garden State, joined Ciattarelli for a June “Tele-Rally,” where the pair talked about making New Jersey a Red State.

“New Jersey is ready to pop out of that blue horror show and really get in there and vote for somebody that’s going to make things happen,” Trump said.

Democrat Phil Murphy has served as New Jersey’s governor since 2018 and is ineligible to serve a third term. He congratulated Sherrill and Cittarelli for becoming their parties’ candidates in June and said he expected a spirited race.

“I look forward to working with the winner of this November’s election to ensure the smoothest possible transition for the next Governor,” Murphy said.
