Trump waives Jones Act to address soaring gas prices from Iran war


President Trump issued a Jones Act waiver on Wednesday in his latest attempt to tamp down rising fuel prices caused by Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Jones Act typically prevents foreign-flagged ships from carrying cargo between American ports.

“President Trump’s decision to issue a 60-day Jones Act waiver is just another step to mitigate the short-term disruptions to the oil market as the U.S. military continues meeting the objectives of Operation Epic Fury,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Bloomberg News.
