Two pedestrians struck, one fatally, in chain-reaction Queens crash

Two women crossing the street near a Queens expressway service road were struck, one fatally, in a chain-reaction crash, cops said Sunday.

The two victims were crossing the street in Jamaica about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a 58-year-old woman driving a 2008 Toyota Scion west on Liberty Ave. stopped in the left-turn lane near the Van Wyck Expressway service road to let them pass, cops said.

That’s when a 65-year-old woman driving a 2021 Mercedes-Benz C 300 rear-ended the Scion, sending it hurtling into the two pedestrians, police said.

One of the pedestrians, a 51-year-old woman, wound up pinned underneath the Scion, cops said. Medics took her to Jamaica Hospital, where she died. Her name was not immediately released.

The other victim, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.

Both drivers remained at the scene and faced no immediate charges as cops continue to investigate.
