Two teenage boys were shot and wounded while sitting in a parked car in Suffolk County on Monday night, police said.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg, and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the hand, the Suffolk County Police Department said in an alert. The teens were not publicly identified.
No suspects have been named or arrested in the case.
The two victims were sitting in a car with another male on Madison Avenue in Brentwood, police said. Another car “with at least three males” inside pulled up in front of them around 7 p.m., according to investigators.
One person in the second car exited their vehicle and opened fire on the boys in the first car, wounding two of them, cops said. The boys in the first car fled the scene and drove about 2 miles south to Bay Shore before calling police, authorities said.
The wounded boys were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect vehicle fled the crime scene in an unknown direction, and Suffolk police did not publicly speculate on a motive for the attack.
Monday night’s shooting is the latest of several violent incidents involving teenagers on Long Island. Most recently, 19-year-old Amira McCleod was shot and killed at a house party in Hempstead in late November. Jacob McMillan, 18, was arrested about a week later and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting, which also wounded two other people.
