Two lucky winners, one in Missouri and one in Texas, will split the $1.787 billion Powerball prize after matching all six winning numbers in Saturday night’s drawing.
The $1.787 billion jackpot is the second largest in Powerball history, but the split prize means both winners will take home less than $1 billion. They will have the choice of a $410.3 million lump sum or $893.5 million paid out of 30 years.
Neither winner has been publicly identified yet. The winning ticket in Texas was sold at Big’s Convenience Store outside Fredericksburg, about 50 miles west of Austin. Missouri’s state lottery hasn’t revealed where the winning ticket was sold in that state.
In Saturday night’s drawing, the five white balls were 11, 23, 44, 61 and 62, and the Powerball was 17. Eighteen people, including two in New York and one in New Jersey, matched all five white balls to win $1 million.
“Each $2 ticket sold during this Powerball jackpot run gave players a chance at the prize, while also supporting vital public programs and services in their communities — and that’s worth celebrating!” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO.
The giant prize created long lines at ticket sellers across the nation, with people hoping to beat the 1 in 292.2 million odds of winning. Last night’s drawing was the 42nd since the previous jackpot was won on May 31.
The only larger jackpot in Powerball history was $2.04 billion in November 2022. It was won by a single person, Edwin Castro, in Southern California.
